Getting Started

If you are new to beading, or a particular technique, and would like some guidance on the ‘what is this’, ‘how do I use that’ then take a look at the Techniques downloads.  We have highlighted in pink the technique sheets that are most useful with each of the projects next to the individual project pictures.
Pliers and Other Tools – A quick guide to different types of tools and how to use them

Loops and Linking – Once you can turn a professional loop in wire, and create well formed links a whole new world of possibilities opens up to you, this guide takes you step-by-step through this valuable technique.

There are so many types of threads available now that can be difficult to work out which to use.  The next 3 downloads take some of the mystery out and show you how to use several types of thread.

Working with Beading Threads – Using fine threads like Nymo and Superlon - a general overview of the threads and guidelines on working with them.

Threading with Beading Wires – Tigertail, Softflex, Soft Touch – strong threading materials with a stranded metal core – which to use and how to use them.

Threading with Thong – This guide focuses on the thicker cords available like cotton thong and flat lace and how to attach fasteners.

Projects

The first three projects all use needle and thread, if you are quite new to beading you will find the Working with Beading Threads download useful to introduce you to the technique.

The Carnival and Lariat sets below both use Loops and Linking in different ways – the Carnival includes Threading with Beading Wires, and the Lariat Threading with Thonging

The Pearly Queen and Stranded Wire sets use techniques not covered in any of the sheets, even if you are a complete beginner all you need to know is in the download.

The final four projects have all been made by either knitting with fine coloured wire or manipulating pre-knitted wire.  For the two bracelets you will need some basic knowledge of knitting, just enough to cast on, knit, and cast off. Each of these projects is either complete step-by-step, or, simple guidelines that you can then add your own individual touch to. If you have enjoyed these and would like to try some more ideas take a look at the Knitted Wire Starter Boxes (Kits – Starter Packs).
